all about the bow

This year’s holiday home isn’t a design aesthetic, it is a lifestyle.

This has definitely been the year of The Bow. Not just in worldwide fashion and design, but in my personal life. Growing up in the early 80’s, my mother made sure I had 2 ribbons to match each outfit I owned. (2 ribbons would allow the option for 1 ponytail or 2 pigtails) Years later, when my daughter was born, naturally I carried on the tradition and any photo featuring her under the age of 10, likely has her wearing at least 1 ribbon to match her outfit.

Only engaged a few days, Katie & I wandered into Mira Couture Bridal Boutique on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile the day after Thanksgiving last year. Without an appointment, we were delighted to find they had a cancellation and were happy to let us browse and dream. It only took about 3 dresses before The Bride gleefully exclaimed “IT HAS A BOW!” and we knew we had found The Dress.

The Bow quickly became a subconscious theme for The Wedding (and our entire year). I had no idea what my “Mother of The Bride” vibe would or should be. Seems finding clothes for women my age, my style is somewhat complicated, feeling like Goldilocks “this is too old, this is too young”. Unlike The Bride, my search took multiple stores, colors, styles, until I found the one that made me gleefully exclaim “IT HAS A BOW!”

The traditional vintage fashionista within me has recently developed an incredible fascination with all things Chanel. With The Wedding behind me, the time has come to focus my attention on my holiday home. Like most of you, I love my holiday decor, look forward to updating and adjusting each year. Hope you love my tree and overall holiday vibe, as I gleefully exclaim “IT HAS A BOW!”
