first impressions
“You never get a second chance to make a first impression.”
Will Rodgers
Most fundraising events start with sponsor recruitment. Reaching out to a contact at a company, imploring them to donate thousands of dollars to attend your event and support your worthwhile cause - this can be a daunting task. These contacts have been carefully selected, typically due to a reputation of generousity and/or an existing relationship. Either way, the ask is always delicate, always paired with deep appreciation for the potential donor.
This moment, this request for giving of finances and time, is the first impression of your event, maybe even the first impression of your organization. Use this moment to convey the spirit of the event and your mission. Make sure the recipient knows you appreciate the time and consideration they are giving you. Show them you plan on creating an event steeped in excellence, and their partnership will be a benefit to both parties, something they can be proud of and look forward to sharing with friends and colleagues.
I am spending this weekend preparing sponsor packets to be distributed to potential donors for an inaugural event. I want each packet to possess a custom, handmade elegance. I want each recipient to see the passion we have for the mission. I want them to feel they have all the information they need to select a giving level, start thinking about guests they will invite to join them that evening.
You can imagine my excitement when my Amazon purchase arrived, with the wax seal stamps featuring an eagle. This $15 total investment, paired with less than an hour of my time, will absolutely give me an incredible return.
Excited for the next six months of partnerships and planning, to help some EAGLES soar.
